Meet The Team
Creative design, interior design, graphic design, commissioning and procuring artworks, FF&E, project management – our expert, highly experienced staff have specialist skills in all these key areas.
The team is headed by co-founders and joint Managing Directors, Andy Yuill and Andy Collier, who have worked together for over 20 years. Both are widely recognised within the UK and internationally as leading designers with unparalleled reputations for creativity, genuine innovation, specialist expertise and efficiency.
Brief summaries of the backgrounds of some of our key team members are detailed below:
Andy Collier
Co-founder of SMC Design and Joint Managing Director
Andy graduated as a Full Member of the Society of Industrial Arts and Designers in 1986 and gained extensive design experience primarily in the leisure and hospitality fields.
Andy has since developed specialist knowledge in hotel and marine design for many leading UK and international clients, but has also worked on many casino and retail projects. Clients have included Hilton and Meridian hotels, Harrods and major cruise companies (e.g. Cunard, Crystal Cruises, Star Cruises, P&O).
Andy Yuill
Co-founder of SMC Design and Joint Managing Director
Andy graduated with a Diploma in Interior Design from Napier University in 1987 and immediately went to work on prestigious office developments in the City of London.
Gaining extensive experience throughout the United Kingdom and Australia, Andy eventually settled in London working within the areas of leisure, hospitality, retail and commercial design both within the UK and internationally. Clients have included Norwegian Cruise Lines, Star Cruises, Harrods, Alloa Breweries, international hotels and landmark venues, where he has been responsible for controlling design from initial concept through to completion.
Alan Stewart
Senior Designer/Project Manager
Alan gained an HND in Interior Design at Edinburgh’s Telford College and went on to be awarded a Grade 1 Merit in an Advanced National Diploma.
Alan began his professional career specialising in luxury train design for prestigious clients such as Orient Express, Pullman and The Royal Scotsman. Since joining SMC Design in 1998, Alan has worked across the company’s portfolio of projects, including the design of health spa’s, casinos, retail areas, restaurants, outdoor pools and children’s areas. Alan has extensive knowledge of project management and site supervision.
Liz Richardson
Senior Designer
Liz graduated in Graphic Design from the University of Derby in 1993 and began specialising in the FF&E area of design. This included working on a number of international five star hotel projects, particularly in the Middle East.
Liz joined SMC Design in 2000 as an FF&E Designer and has brought her extensive knowledge and expertise in furniture, fixtures and equipment to help design and supervise many of our most prestigious projects. This includes working extensively with Norwegian Cruise Lines on a number of their ships, as well as Cunard, P&O and Genting Casinos.
Anjaline Ram
Head of Graphics
Anjaline gained a distinction in Art and Design BTec and went on to study Graphic Design at Southampton. A year after graduating she joined SMC Design in 2000 and in 2005 became head of our graphics department.
Anjaline’s work involves taking projects right through from initial concepts and design presentation through to project management and on-site supervision. It is Anjaline’s detailed understanding of the graphic and signage requirements of large scale projects that has contributed to SMC’s continued success. As well as signage for a large variety of public areas and complex direction systems, Anjaline and her team have also been responsible for the design of super graphics, brand identities and promotional literature.
Robert Mok
Senior Designer/Project Manager
Robert is extensively qualified in Art and Design, having completed the Foundation courses at both Central St Martins College and East Ham Community College. He then graduated in Art and Design, specialising in Interior Design, at University College Suffolk.
Robert initially worked as an interior designer, completing a number of restaurant, bar and spa projects. He joined SMC Design in 2000, but took a year’s break from us in 2005 to design a luxury Four Seasons residential estate in Mauritius complete with marina, spa, and retail outlets. He rejoined us in 2006 and continues to work across our portfolio but with particular expertise in spa’s.
Jason Tan
Interior Designer
Jason gained a Diploma in Interior Design from the Malaysian Institute of Art and went on to get an MA in Interior Design & Technology from Birmingham City University in the UK in 2002.
After working as an Interior Designer with companies specialising in retail, residential and office projects, Jason joined SMC Design in 2004. He has worked on many of our most prestigious projects in the leisure, hospitality and retail fields. Jason has considerable experience in architectural design and an excellent understanding of the diverse Asian cultures and design styles.
Tamineh Dhondy
Head of Art Consultancy
Tamineh studied Fine Art at the University of Leeds before spending a year in San Diego studying Fine Art at the University of California.
After graduating, Tamineh worked as a stylist for film, theatre and photo shoots. In 2002 she set up her own vintage clothing and art business, joining SMC Art in 2006 to focus on art consultancy. Tamineh and her assistants are involved in the commissioning, procurement, logistics and installation of all artworks. It is their shared passion that continues to offer clients fresh, innovative and exciting solutions.
Stephanie Ajayi
Marketing Manager
Stephanie is a highly qualified and experienced marketing communications specialist. She graduated in Business Studies with Marketing and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, The Institute of Direct Marketing and The Market Research Society. She has worked for major companies such as Dun & Bradstreet, Johnson Controls and Manpower.
In 1999 Stephanie was made Marketing & Development Manager for Greenbelt Festivals before becoming a freelance Media Analyst and Business Development Manager. She has extensive experience in all aspects of marketing services, including new business generation across Europe.
