NORWEGIAN GETAWAY

Launched in early 2014 Norwegian Getaway is the biggest ship ever to homeport year-round out of Miami. SMC were again responsible for 50 % of the interior design as well as the artwork procurement for the entire ship.

Like her sister the Norwegian Breakaway, this 4,000 passenger ship took design inspiration from her homeport. The interior design was built on the success of Norwegian Breakaways, but with new nods to the atmosphere and aesthetic of Miami – for example the signature Ice Bar drew inspiration from the cities beautiful art deco district with back etched, large scale illuminated ice walls. The onboard spinning room featured a UV Miami cityscape panoramic around the full length of the space, and the popular Sugar Cane Mojito bar included hand-carved organic wood carvings and a bespoke bar front depicting botanical reliefs.

A particular design highlight was the much celebrated Waterfront  – an open deck area that ran around the entire deck 8, allowing guests the exciting option of exterior dining and relaxing connected directly to internal areas..  SMC were excited to add a Shippax award to their collection for their involvement with this innovative space.

The artwork was carefully curated to reflect the clients brief to include international artists, and artwork that was unique to each space. SMC art consultants sourced American glass artists for Cagney’s steakhouse, Balinese craftsmen for the VIP Asian inspired spa, as well as a Japanese origami artist for the onboard Sushi bar.
