SMC Design unveils Bar 1873 for Holland America Line

SMC Design unveils Bar 1873 for Holland America Line

A new hospitality experience aboard Oosterdam draws on 153 years of maritime heritage.

SMC has partnered with Holland America Line to create Bar 1873, a distinctive new two-storey venue aboard Oosterdam, as part of the Holland America Evolution programme.

Inspired by the cruise line’s rich history, the design brings together contemporary interiors, bespoke artwork and carefully considered historical references to create a space with its own character and sense of place.

At its heart is a striking illuminated tulip installation, a nod to Holland America’s Dutch roots. Throughout the venue, more than 200 heritage objects, artworks and curated details tell the story of the brand’s evolution, while creating an inviting setting for guests to enjoy cocktails, live music and conversation.

The project reflects SMC’s multidisciplinary approach, bringing interior design, art and brand storytelling together to shape the guest experience.

Bar 1873 is part of Holland America Evolution, the cruise line’s major fleet transformation programme, with the concept set to be introduced across additional ships, each with its own interpretation of the brand’s history.
